Their results, recently published in the journal Circulation, found that moderate coffee consumption was linked with a lower risk of overall mortality, as well as a lower risk of death from heart and neurological diseases.

SHORT SLEEPERS: Are Four Times More Likely to Catch a Cold
A recent study has shown that sleep can prevent colds.
The study involved 164 healthy men and women, average age 30. Aric Prather, assistant professor of psychology at the University of California, San Francisco, and his colleagues gave participants devices similar to a Fitbit® and monitored their sleep for a week. Then the study volunteers had a live cold virus sprayed into their noses and were quarantined for five days.
Here’s what Researchers Found:
Those who averaged five to six hours of sleep a night were four times more likely to catch a cold than those who slept an average of seven hours. Four times. Or, looking at it another way, about 39% of those who slept six hours or less got sick. Of those who slept more than six hours a night, only 18% got colds.
MIGHT BE TIME TO SERIOUSLY MAKE SURE YOU GET MORE SLEEP !
“It’s striking,” Prather told National Public Radio. “We don’t know conclusively what happens, but there are a variety of pathways and they all work together and ultimately put people at risk. - Aric Prather, US San Francisco.
Other factors such as stress and lack of exercise also come into play, but sleep plays a large role in helping our immune system do battle with invading viruses.
So stay well this winter and summer by sleeping more, exercising more and doing more yoga to reduce stress! Oh and remember an apple a day does keep the doctor away. :)

SLEEP IS THE DIFFERENCE TO GETTING HIGHER SAT SCORES?
You have bought every prep book at the local Barnes & Noble. Spent more money on tutoring and group classes than your last family vacation. Spent more time thinking about how to help your child than your latest work project, read on, we found some answers.
1. Practice tests increase scores
Improving SAT scores, is not fun or magical, its just work. Your child has to be committed. They have to stay focused and commit to working on SAT/ACT Prep a little bit every day. They should schedule about 30 minutes a day and take simulated practice tests many, many times, this really makes a difference.
Use the Green Test Prep program from Anthony-James Green – a widely respected educator with over 13,000 hours of experience teaching the SAT and ACT.
Anthony-James Green is a gifted SAT test prep instructor, booked out for the next two years and who normally charges $1,000/hour. That's $20,000 for an eight session program. OMG! What to do? Thankfully he has developed an online Test Prep program for kids to use on their own at their own speed. It lays out what to study and when, how to increase scores and what to focus on. Watch the video below to learn how it works.
Start early, freshman or sophomore year but if you find yourself looking at a close in test date, start cramming 2 weeks before the test date. It will be hard but you should still see improvement. No matter which test you’re preparing for, one payment gets you unlimited, never-expiring access to the best curriculum, strategies, and tactics for SAT and ACT math, reading, writing, English, science, and essay sections.
For one affordable price, Green Test Prep includes comprehensive online prep systems for the SAT, ACT, PSAT and the New SAT. Get Started
2. MORE QUALITY SLEEP
The really big thing, is getting your child more quality sleep every day, not just the night before the test.
Even small sleep differences make a big impact. Increments of just 15 minutes can add to better scores. Every study done shows a similar connection between sleep and school grades. Teens who received A’s averaged about fifteen more minutes sleep than the B students, who in turn averaged eleven more minutes than the C’s, and the C’s had ten more minutes than the D’s. Every fifteen minutes counts.
Tired teens can ’t remember what they just learned, for instance, because neurons lose their plasticity, becoming incapable of forming the synaptic connections necessary to encode a memory.
The more kids learned during the day, the more they need to sleep that night.
On a test, a tired brain gets stuck on a wrong answer and can’t come up with a more creative solution, repeatedly returning to the same answer it already knows is erroneous.
Get the BEST Mattress for your teen
The latest foam mattresses offer a great sleep surface for teenagers. Look for a Latex/Memory Foam that will support your child for the best night’s sleep. They will fall asleep faster, toss and turn less for longer, undisturbed REM sleep which is when new material is encoded to their memory. The Best news is that the new online foam mattresses are affordable.

Hypo-thyroid-ism (underactive thyroid) is a condition in which your thyroid gland doesn't produce enough of certain important hormones.
Hypothyroidism, (Hypothyroidism) also called underactive thyroid disease, is when your thyroid gland does not make enough thyroid hormone.
The thyroid gland is located in the front lower part of your neck. Hormones released by the gland travel through your bloodstream and affect nearly every part of your body, from your heart and brain, to your muscles and skin.
The thyroid controls how your body's cells use energy from food, a process called metabolism. Among other things, your metabolism affects your body’s temperature, your heartbeat, and how well you burn calories. If you don't have enough thyroid hormone, your body processes slow down. That means your body makes less energy, and your metabolism becomes sluggish.
What Causes Hypothyroidism?
The most common cause of hypothyroidism is Hashimoto's thyroiditis. "Thyroiditis" is an inflammation of the thyroid gland and may be caused by a viral infection. Hashimoto's thyroiditis is an autoimmune disorder. With Hashimoto’s, your body produces antibodies that attack and destroy the thyroid gland. These same antibodies will all attack the medicine prescribed to regulate the thyroid, requiring a combination of drugs.
Symptoms can include depression, hair loss, dry skin, fatigue, sensitivity to cold, swelling of the thyroid gland, unexplained weight gain, difficulty losing weight.
It can be hard to find the right doctor to personalize treatment to your specific symptoms. Seek a specialist with experience in treating Hashimoto and Thyroid issues. Like with any experts you will need to do some research and find the right advice you are comfortable with. In researching this topic we found that you should find a specialist that will work with you over the phone in conjunction with your own doctor. Here is an example of one such practice
